Hello world! Welcome to What Matters to Me… a blog I created to start documenting and sharing the journey of one girl’s evolution from business owner to one day being the CEO of an event empire. I gave birth to The Henley Company in 2004 after I realized that I wasn’t good at playing in the corporate sandbox — maybe you are, I’m not and I don’t apologize for it. Too many rules, too many zombies just going through the motions around me, which led to too little creativity and not enough autonomy. Once I had the revelation that there is nothing wrong with corporate America – there was just something wrong with ME in Corporate America – I started putting together my exit strategy and building a book of business on the side. On my last day of working for someone else, I didn’t walk, I skipped all the way to the door.
On July 16, 2007, I hung out the shingle and The Henley Company became a full-time bona fide business. Since the first day, I have worked more hours than anyone can count, been challenged in more ways than any of my academic degrees demanded of me, fretted more than one stomach can take, been overjoyed more than one heart can handle and secretly have had moments when I stand back with enormous pride for what I have created and have given myself the nod to say, “go on girl!” I adore what I do for a living — event management fills my soul, gives me purpose and allows me to create experiences for my clients that are profoundly unique. There is no doubt that I would be where I am today had it not been for my amazing family and a very small but mighty group of people that I have chosen to have in my life. I hope you know who you are and you know that I love you to the moon and back…more than you will ever know!
If you really care to know about me, you can always check out my website, but that speaks to all stuff I have already accomplished. What Matters to Me… is what is happening now, in the future and most importantly documents my entertaining, kick ass journey along the way.
Hi Nicole,
I am very proud of you. Someone you know referred your site to me a few years ago. However I have been out of state and unable to attend your functions. I previously had several touristic, event planning, etc. jobs in San Deigo so I know your challenges.
Please keep me on your website until my return. It is a joy to remain connected with the positive.
Blessings
Carol
